Webinfosys's Local News : N-deal must for energy needs: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday endorsed the concerns of India's security establishment when he sounded a chilling warning about the dangers of nuclear technology falling into the "dangerous hands" of terrorists and called for greater vigil to ensure non-proliferation of sensitive equipment and material.

Addressing a conference on nuclear disarmament to mark 20 years of Rajiv Gandhi's action plan offered in the UN, Singh was forthright in highlighting the new dangers that countries like India faced.

"In parallel with this general commitment to nuclear disarmament, we need strengthened non-proliferation commitments such as on denying nuclear material, technology and equipment to terrorists," he said.

In doing so, the PM gave greater credence to the views of top security officials like National Security Adviser M K Narayanan, who in February had warned a conference in Munich of the threat posed by terror groups acquiring nuclear assets of volatile states.

Narayanan has also previously warned of terrorists targeting India's atomic energy establishments like the one at Trombay.

Though neither the PM nor the NSA named countries, concerns over Pakistan's arsenal have been aired. In January, IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei had said that he was concerned over nuclear weapons falling into the hands of a terror group in Pakistan or Afghanistan.

A dirty bomb remains a nightmare scenario for most nations and even though the known nuclear mart of Pakistan's rogue scientist, A Q Khan, has been shut down, efforts of jihadi groups to acquire nuclear weapons continue to cause sleepless nights to security agencies around the world.

In a guarded comment during an interview, Narayanan had said that Pakistan's weapons were "largely safe" even though he added the US was also watching the situation closely.

The PM, who is also best known for being virtually the sole spokesman for the India-US nuclear deal, refused to give up on Monday as well. As he has done before, Manmohan Singh raised the energy argument, saying India did not have the luxury of limiting its energy sources. "Our energy needs will continue to rise in the foreseeable future. We do not have the luxury of limiting our options of energy sources."

He said India wished to create an international environment in which nuclear technology is used not for destructive purposes but for "helping us meet our national development goals and our energy security".

Webinfosys's Local News : Rajesh Talwar's bail plea hearing today

The bail application of Rajesh Talwar, the accused in the Aarushi murder case, will come up for hearing on Tuesday before a Ghaziabad court.

With no clinching evidence on record against Talwar, who is currently in judicial custody, the court is likely to grant him bail.

CBI conducts fresh search at Talwar's residence

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and forensic experts conducted a fresh search late Monday night in the house of Rajesh Talwar to find more clues into the murder of his daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.

The team, accompanied by Talwar's compounder Krishna, reached his Noida residence at around 11.45 p.m.

CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar led the team. Earlier, the CBI had put compounder Krishna through a six-hour lie detector test.

The agency claimed to have obtained some "incriminating clues" against him from the room of Hemraj, the slain domestic help.

During investigations it was found that three people were present in Hemraj's room and consumed alcohol on May 15 night, when Aarushi's murder took place. One of them was Krishna, the identity of the third person is not yet known, said CBI sources.

On June 1, the CBI registered Aarushi's murder case against "unknown persons". The Noida police arrested Aarushi's dentist father Rajesh Talwar as the prime accused but the CBI is treating him only as a "suspect".

CBI Director Vijay Shanker has said, "The breakthrough is going to come soon."

Aarushi, 14, was found killed in her Noida home May 16 with her throat slit. The Noida police initially named domestic help Hemraj and even sent teams to trace him, but backtracked after his body was found a day later on the terrace of the Talwars' house.
The police arrested Talwar on May 23, accusing him of killing his daughter in a fit of rage as he objected to her being close to Hemraj. The police had said at the time that Talwar first killed Hemraj and then his daughter.

The CBI took over the case after the Noida police drew flak for shoddy investigations.

"The delay in handing over the case to the CBI has proved detrimental. The crime scene has been disturbed if not destroyed completely. Now all our hopes are pinned on the forensic evidence reports, which are awaited," the official said.

The Noida police had not even bothered to seal the crime scene.

After taking over the case, the CBI lifted blood samples still found at the scene of crime, suspected fingerprints, palm prints etc. and collected other forensic evidence.

The blood soaked blanket found on the body of Aarushi and other articles of clothing having suspected blood stains were also seized. Talwar's computer, laptop and some other articles in the Noida police custody were also taken.

Webinfosys's Local News : Will Karunanidhi free Rajiv Gandhi's assassin?

The Tamil Nadu government is likely to reveal its position on Nalini Murugan, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, to the Madras High Court on Tuesday.

The High Court had asked the state government to provide its response by Tuesday.

Nalini Murugan, came into limelight recently, after Priyanka Vadra, daughter of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, met her in Vellore prison. Priyanka reportedly asked Nalini why she got involved in her father's killing.

Nalini had moved the Madras High Court in April after her plea for release on the grounds of good conduct in the prison was rejected by an advisory board last year. The board's decision was also accepted by the Tamil Nadu government.

Nalini was initially sentenced to death along with her husband Murugan and two others in the case. Nalini's capital punishment was later commuted to life imprisonment following an appeal on humanitarian grounds by Congress president and Rajiv Gandhi's widow Sonia Gandhi, after Nalini delivered a baby girl in the Vellore prison.

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Monday said he would soon move the Madras High Court against the plea made by Nalini Murugan seeking early release.

Citing a Supreme Court judgment in the case, Swamy said Nalini did not deserve any mercy despite being a woman.
